I will set homework most Fridays relating to current learning although any work you do at home is really beneficial to your child’s learning, even if it is just making the most out of day to day situations eg. Counting objects, recognising numbers in the environment, reading signs, writing shopping lists and writing about any exciting days out and events. Homework will go out every Friday. This must be returned to school on a Monday morning.

Year One Spellings Homework

Each week your child will bring home 8-10 spellings. These words will include tricky words and sounds which they have previously learnt in school. As the weeks progress the spellings will become more difficult.

Their spellings will be handed out every Monday and the children will be expected to practice their spellings over the week and a short spelling test will take place every Friday.

The spelling test will be recorded in this book so you will be able to see your child’s progress. As a result it is really important that your child brings their book in every Monday.

Please ask you child to practise writing each word 5 times using the worksheet provided.

*Extension*

On the next clean page in this book you can ask your child to write sentences containing some of the spellings.

Please do not feel like your child has to spend a long time writing a sentence for each word..3/4 sentences will be sufficient.

When your child is writing the sentences remind them to write as neat as possible  using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Your child may also be able to use connectives and wow! words in their writing.

Many thanks for your support
