Information for Parents/Carers

Homework

Your child will be given homework which will enhance the curriculum that they are following in school and will help to improve their learning. We greatly appreciate parental support and encourage parents to become involved in their children’s learning. Research has shown that support from home significantly improves a child’s achievement in school. Homework is set on Friday for completion by the following Thursday. The children will also have assigned tasks to complete on Doodle as well as their personalised learning.

Reading

To help your child develop a love of reading, all children are given daily opportunities to read either during Shared Reading, Independent Reading or Reading for Pleasure sessions. Your child is encouraged to bring books of their own choice or choose a book from our class library as well as bring their school reading book and reading record to school every day.

All children will read with the class teacher at least once a week. The expectation is that your child should read for 30 minutes per day to develop their pace, fluency and understanding of a range of texts. Using Accelerated Reader quizzes, your child will complete a short comprehension quiz after they have completed reading their home reading book.

Multiplication Tables

The 2014 curriculum for Mathematics states that children are expected to know ALL times table facts up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4. Please encourage your child to revise all their multiplication tables using Times Table Rock Stars

PE

Year 5 will have PE on Mondays this half term. Please ensure that your child wears their PE kit on PE day.
