Autumn Term 

We will be exploring the topic ‘Ourselves’ within the theme of Family in the Domestic Church.

Each person is made in the image and likeness of God. To know ourselves and to appreciate that our value and uniqueness is central to our well being.

Scripture: I Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen race, the King’s priests, the holy nation, God’s own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God, who called you out of darkness into his own marvellous light.

 

We will explore ‘Life Choices’ within the theme of ‘Belonging’ within Baptism/Confirmation.

Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins. Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ.

Our last topic of the term is ‘Hope’ within the theme of Loving within Advent/Christmas, when we wait in joyful hope for Jesus; the promised one. 

 In that region there were shepherds living in the fields keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see – I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a saviour, who is the Messiah, (The Christ) the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.”

Spring Term 

Our first topic this term is Local Church – Community: Mission – Continuing Jesus’ mission in diocese (ecumenism).

“Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit rested on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Guided by the Spirit, Simeon came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the law, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying, “Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen the salvation which you have made ready in the sight of the nations; a light of revelation for the Gentiles and glory of your people Israel.”

Our second topic Eucharist – Relating: Memorial Sacrifice – The Eucharist; the living memorial of Jesus. 

For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘this is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, ‘This is the cup of the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Summer Term 

Our first topic is Pentecost – Serving: Transformation – celebrating the Sprit’s transforming power

 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.

Scripture: Acts 1:8

Secondly, we will explore Reconciliation – Inter Relating; Freedom and Responsibility – Commandments enable Christians to be free and responsible

For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters, only do not use your freedom for self indulgence but through love become slaves to one another. For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment; “You shall love your neighbour as yourselves”. If, however, you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.

Our final topic is Universal Church – World: Stewardship – the Church is called to stewardship of Creation

  Then God said: “And now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resemble us. They will have power over the fish, the birds, and all animals, domestic and wild, large and small.”
